Greece: Athens Riots 2008

On December 6th 2008 Alexis Grigoropoulos,15, was shot and killed by police in Central Athens, Greece. This event culminated in intense rioting, which heightened popular disdain toward the ruling government. Downtown Athens was transformed into a war zone where students and anarchists protested and battled police, who were struggling to maintain civil order.
